Awards and Honours

Each year during the conference, CAUCE recognizes Continuing Education professionals who achieve outstanding accomplishments in the 5 categories: program development; marketing; journal; recognition; and honourary membership.

For full details and nomination forms, visit the CAUCE website.

Program Awards

Innovation and excellence for program development in the following sub-categories:

  • local/regional programs – the program draws on local resources and is primarily aimed at a local/regional audience although it may attract a few students from farther away because of new technologies;
  • national programs addressed to a national audience and drawing on local as well as national resources;
  • international programs, reaching beyond national borders in that they have an international component (audience, location or employ international resources); international programs will have the additional complexity of having forged educational alliances across frontiers.

Marketing Awards

Innovation and excellence for marketing initiatives in the following sub-categories:

  • major brochure – 16 or more pages, excluding cover
  • small brochure – no more than 15 pages, excluding cover
  • pamphlet/flyer/postcard/poser – one sheet or card only
  • advertisement – print or broadcast
  • marketing campaign – 3 or more executions
  • marketing on a shoestring – low-budget/high-impact initiatives
  • website
  • e-marketing – web or email e-newsletter, blog, etc.
  • other printed materials – newsletters, annual reports, etc.
  • collateral materials – ancillary materials used to support and reinforce a media advertising campaign

Journal Award

Excellence in an article published in the Journal of University Continuing Education in the calendar year preceding the Annual General Meeting. The editor of the Journal is responsible for setting up an adjudication committee, whose activities will include review of adjudication criteria if warranted. It may be determined that no award will be given in a particular year.

The committee should be formed by February of each year so that the work may be done in March and April. The winner(s), if any, should be made known to the President-elect by May 1 so that the winner(s) may be advised in time to attend the awards ceremony at the Annual Conference. In addition to the name(s) of the winner(s), the full title of the article(s) and any comments from the adjudication committee should be sent to the President-elect for inclusion in the awards booklet.

The Award of Recognition

This award, instituted in 1988, is to be given annually if a suitable candidate is nominated by a member university continuing education unit. It may be awarded to a Canadian who is not employed as a professional in university continuing education and who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of continuing education/adult education in Canada . Nominations may only be received from Institutional Members of CAUCE.

Honourary Membership

Persons nominated for Honourary Membership must be individuals who have contributed to the objectives of CAUCE. Previous decisions regarding Honourary Membership have tended to interpret contribution or service in the light of national or regional impact and not solely on the basis of local accomplishments.

Nominations shall include biographical data and an outline of the nominee’s contribution to continuing education generally and to the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education more specifically. The CAUCE Executive will decide on an appropriate recipient(s) at its February meeting and will advise both the nominee and nominator shortly thereafter.

In addition to peer recognition, Honourary Members may attend all CAUCE meetings.
